Game 2 Recap: SBFC suffers first loss of the Season

Superbad FC, coming off an impressive 3-0 season opener came into game #2 with heads held high, looking to keep atop the leader board. SBFC, still without a full roster, started the game off strong with backup Keeper Steven Carias in between the pipes. The game was an even and aggressive matchup, with both teams having significant scoring opportunities in the first. PSG opened the scoring up in the 19th minute of the first half, taking several opportunities to bounce rebound shots off of Carias before finally netting the goal. At the 25 minute half mark, SBFC was down 1-0.

SBFC regrouped and came out hungry in the second half. An impressive tic-tac-toe play between Cory Da Silva and Jason Morgan off a corner kick resulted in the tying goal, putting SBFC back in the game. SBFC spirits were re-ignited, as they began looking for the go ahead goal. Words of encouragement could be heard ‘round the stadium as Morgan shouted “Stay up his ass!” to a fellow teammate. Unfortunately for SBFC, a defensive turnover resulted in a cross net shot, just beating keeper Carias. PSG up 2-1. Fitness became an issue for SBFC late into the second half as a lack of substitutes and early season rust became apparent and PSG began to outpace their opponents. Tempers rose as the game wore on. At the 46th minute, DaSilva was struck by a late tackle, resulting in a bench clearing argument at the sidelines spearheaded by Don Tran. DaSilva and his aggressor were both given penalties and the final minutes of the game were played 4 on 4. In the dying seconds of the matchup, a blatant but necessary foul was committed just outside the SBFC penalty box. PSG lined up and scored a controversial free kick, setting the score to 3-1. Unfortunately for SBFC, this was how the game would end. SBFC is now holding a 1-1-0 record. SBFC will no doubt be looking forward to the rematch against their league rivals.

MOTM honors go to Steven Carias, who yet again displayed incredible presence in the net. The score line could have been quite different were it not for the multiple saves made by Carias throughout the game. SBFC are back in action February 3rd at 830pm.
